I just read the first Volume of the Supergirl book and this series just rocketted up to my 2nd favorite series of the New 52 and seeing Supergirl gets a Red ring with issue 28, it's the reason why I want to read this series. I'm liking that I'll have the Red Lanterns and now Supergirl books to read that are linked...

I bought that for my wife and she enjoyed it enough to want the second volume.

I'm heard only bad things about Supergirl... but you know how comic book nerds are on the internet. Interesting they're making her a red lantern... seems like they're really trying hard to make the Red Lanterns popular.
I read the first Trade for Dial H last night... pretty decent. There was some really cool hero designs... a bit overly complex, I thought, but that's to be expected from China Melville, really. I'd read the next one if I came upon it for a good price, but not really good enough to go search out... especially since it's been cancelled and will probably be in the discount bins before too long.

I've read the first 3 issues of Len Wein's Blue Beetle series from 1986 now. I like Ted Kord a lot and Wein makes him really likable but man is this book all over the place. 2 of the 5 supporting cast members have deep dark secrets. There was a mystery man lurking in the shadows and a detective wanting to know about Dan Garrett's death. Not to mention a rival up to no good. It just feels like the book is trying to do too much out of the gate.

I read an article on bleedingcool.com about the "big two" flirting with a $4.99 cover price. You know, at this point it looks like they've given up on drawing in new readers to monthly books and have just decided to milk the hardcore fans for everything they've got. I also noticed those 99 cent DC books on comixology have now gone up to 1.99. A few of those were amusing for 99 cents, but they're not worth 1.99 in my opinion.

Those $1.99 books look like they drop back down. But I agree, it's ridiculous. They were perfect impulse purchases before. But $1.99 and I'll just go buy a back issues of Invincible or something else.
Shit, Batman has pretty much been a $4.99 book since the Zero Year shit has been going on. And DC took out the backup stories and just gave you a fancier cover for the $3.99 price. $4.99 is an insane price and I honestly think that's where you would break a huge portion of the fanbase. Think about it, you head into your local shop and buy two books, that'll be $10 please. It's bad enough now when you go in and get a handful of books and drop almost $20 on them. The only thing that keeps me afloat honestly is that I use DCBS and get 40% off of cover price. $4.99 would break me and would probably mean I'd drop the big two and just get Valiant books, some Dynamite stuff and jump into the IDW TMNT books. Could you imagine walking into the shop and buying a copy of Avengers and X-Men and having to pay $10 for it? What happened to the pays for smaller price raises? You could probably make me pay for $4.99 books if you got me there slowly. I might even pay if you stopped writing for trades and put content back into the books. Hell, I say go back to newsprint and get the prices down!
Side rant. My niece has been getting into comic books and it's a fucking nightmare. She devours anything I give her but that's been pretty much Atomic Robo, Bone, My Little Pony and Adventure Time. I don't even consider taking her near the Big Two stuff because of the level of violence, DC especially. It's just frustrating and shows how unfriendly comics are to new readers. You have to hook them young or they won't put up with this shit for very long.

DC post Forever Evil stuff is starting to look like a direct rip off of Dark Reign.

To be fair, DC does have a pretty good variety of books geared towards younger readers. I think Marvel still does as well. The point is taken though, DC and Marvel both have problems with content in their main universes that is not necessarily all ages. That's mostly because the age of the monthly comic book reader is skewing higher and higher since they've done nothing special to draw in new readers over the past fifteen years or so. Both of the big two are very short sighted in their approach.

I think she's in it long term but she's going to be a 20 year old reading non-superhero stuff. She loves Bone. She's also into the Teen Titans but that abomination they have out isn't anything like the stuff on tv. She loves Beast Boy and he's fucking red in the New 52!!! I mean seriously, who the hell makes these decisions?
I've gotten her the more all ages books but both companies are really bad about axing those books.

The rumor is that the new Dark Avengers Justice League will have Lex Luthor and Captain Cold as members with Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Captain Marvel.

I read the first issue of the new Doc Savage series. Pretty solid first issue. It's a good jumping on point if you've ever wanted to get into Doc.

And to bitch more about how unfriendly the Big Two are. My wife reads some comics. She reads Fables and Wolverine on a monthly basis. She was kind of eyeing Supergirl so I bought her the first trade. She liked it enough and asked me about the series. I looked into where the series goes and it goes straight into cross over hell for the next 10 or so issues of the book. And she was really frustrated because she doesn't care about the other stuff, she was just kind of interested in Supergirl and the book was good enough that she wanted to read more of it. So yeah...

Yeah, for anyone that's not a long term fan, the small presses are better. I've heard people say the new storyline with Supergirl as a Red Lantern is pretty good, but that's alot of baggage for someone not into the DCU. I'm hope a side effect of the silly JLA thing is that Nightwing (or whatever new identity they give Dick Grayson) runs a Titans-like team

Teen Titans is getting cancelled with issue 30. That hopefully means they've raised the white flag on this and are going back to something that actually resembles the Titans. I doubt it though, I think this is leading to a Young Justice book.

So JLA is getting cancelled in April. What was even the fucking point of that book?
