A great back and forth game that saw the lead change hands five times ended with the Highlanders holding on for a 9-8 win over Cumberland Valley.
Charlie Hickman (1902 CLE) went 4 for 5 with two home runs for the Highlanders.
Birdie Cree (1910 NYY), who was traded from the Highlanders to the Amish, hit his first home run of the year. Also in that deal was Pat Mullin (1941 DET) and he was 2 for 6. Tom Brookens (1980 DET) finished 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Amish.
Rich Rollins (1964 MIN) was 3 for 5 for Laurel.
Steve Sundra (1943 SLA) got the win, even though he gave up four runs on six hits in two innings of work. Jim Todd (1975 OAK) took the loss.

For the second at-bat in a row, Jeff Manto (1995 BAL) came off the bench and hit a game-tying home run. Delaware Valley scored three runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Indians 8-6.
The Minutemen scored five runs in the fourth and then three in the ninth. The Tribe tallied three runs in the fifth and three in the seventh.
Mike Piazza (HER) was beaned by Bob Priddy (1968 CHA) and had to leave the game. Mike Scioscia (1985 LAD) picked up the slack by hitting his second home run of the year.
After Manto homered off Gary Ross (1969 SDN), Mickey Vernon (1953 WAS) singled and Roy Thomas (1903 PHN) singled with one out. Scioscia plated the go-ahead run with a base hit and Reggie Jackson (HOF) hit a sacrifice fly.
Lew Richie (1906 PHN) got the win and is now 7-1, after allowing two runs on two hits in two innings. Joel Johnston (1993 PIT) got his 27th save.
Jim Russell (1944 PIT) and Gene Tenace (1979 SDN) homered for the Indians. It was the first dinger for Tenace since May 31.

The Pirates got home runs from unlikely perpetrators and were able to fight through the Fort for a 7-6 win.
Glenn Beckert (1971 CUB) hit his first home run, a three-run shot, and Moose Solters (1934 BOA) hit his second of the year. The Militia outhit the Bucos 14-11 but left 12 men on base.
Frank Smith (1909 CHA) gave up four runs in the first three innings but then that was it. He went seven innings to even his record at 11-11. Johnny Miljus (1927 PIT) gave up two runs in the ninth but got his 25th save.
Tito Francona (1959 CLE) homered and went 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Militia.
Jim Gardner (1902 CUB) was called up for the start and allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings.
Pittsburgh rightfielder Honus Wagner (HOF) was beaned leading the game off and will be out of the lineup for some time.

LeHigh Valley didn't quit and piled up four runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Turkey Island 8-7.
An outfield error on a deep flyball let the tying run home from third. Pat Kelly (1993 NYY) capped a 4 for 5 game with a hit to right to lift the Industrialists to victory.
The Susquehannocks had scored four runs in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead.
Charlie Wagner (1941 BOA) got the win, allowing one run on three hits in three innings of work. Chuck Kress (1949 CHA) went 3 for 5 with two RBI and Buck Freeman (1901 BOA) was 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Davey Dunkle (1903 WAS) received the loss, givingup one run on two hits. Bill Steele (1910 SLN) was charged with the other three runs in the ninth. Rip Collins (1934 SLN) had three RBI for the Susquehannocks.

Del Ennis "The Menace" (1949 PHN) led the way with two home runs and five RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies smacked around the Mudpuppies 12-1.
Ennis smashed his 11th and 12th roundtrippers of the season. The Phils exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Amos Strunk (1916 PHA) went 4 for 4 with two RBI and three stolen bases to get back over the .300 mark at .303. Brook Jacoby (1987 CLE) added his 26th home run of the year. All nine Phils had at least one hit and scored one run.
Mark Gubicza (1988 KCA) carried a shutout into the ninth inning where it was broken up on a double by Joe Collins (1952 NYY). Gubicza (12-8, 3.70) only allowed four hits and struck out seven. He is 2-0 and has allowed one run in 18 innings against the Mudpuppies.
Jack Harper (1901 SLN) gave up seven runs on 10 hits in six innings. He is 0-3 against the Phillies. Harry Weaver (1918 CUB) could not get out of that seventh inning and allowed five runs on five hits.
The Fightin' Phils are on a five-game winning streak.

The Outdoorsmen stole five bases and made better use of their hits to beat Appalachian 7-3.
John Ward (HOF) went 3 for 5 with three RBI and his second home run of the season, plus two stolen bases. Herbie Moran (1914 CIN) was 3 for 5 with his third home run of the year.
Elk County has by far the fewest home runs in the Keystone State League with 23 and have the third lowest batting averaage at .255. They rank third in team ERA though at 3.36.
Rube Bressler (1914 PHA) worked 6 1/3 innings for the win, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks. Sparky Lyle (HER) got the last out with the bases loaded in the eighth and went on for his fourth save.
Adam Comorosky (1930 PIT) was 3 for 5 with a home run for the Miners. Paul Hartzell (1977 CAL) gave up five runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings for the loss.
