Eddie's abdominal stretch is not Gorilla Monsoon approved.

Okay, what can I say about this match? If the rest of the month is nothing but monster truck sumo matches and Ed Leslie getting squashed by Savage, it will be worth it, because I got to watch this match again. Eddie and Rey put on a masterpiece this night. There is no other word that befits it. Every thing that comes after this can only disappoint. ... That's why I'm going to wait until tomorrow to watch the rest of Havoc 97.

Getting back to the coal miner's glove match...no, that was not a case of the wheel not being gimmicked. The decision was made to go with coal miner's glove because a.) it had never been done on PPV, and b.) it was felt that people wouldn't feel ripped off because of a lack of juice. Having a match with blood was simply a non-starter at the time, which pretty much eliminated a good half of the options on the wheel.
In hindsight, I would have gone with a Texas Death Match, and built the story around the psychology of the DDT rather than a hardcore gore-fest. Sting could take the DDT for a 3-count, but fight his way back to his feet at the count of 9 and come back to win, and you'd have an effective feud blowoff instead of what we got.

So they edit in the 'Break the Walls' intro into 1997 WCW? That's really, really, really dumb. Why? Generic music would be far better.

So... The next match after Eddie/Rey is Mongo/Alex Wright... Fuck this company. I'm glad they are out of business.

So this match is just a mechanism for Goldberg to come out as Debra's hitman and take out Mongo on her behalf. You know, not a lot of attention is paid to Jeff Jarrett's part in Goldberg's meteoric rise. If Jarrett hadn't jumped ship back to the WWF in the middle of his program with Mongo, would Goldberg have been used the same way?

And now it's Disco Inferno. He's the TV champ, but his match against Miss Jackie is non-title. That's right the two matches that follow Eddie/Rey are Mongo/Wright and Disco/Jacquline.

So Disco doesn't want to hit a woman, and as such he keeps leaving the ring. Some how this makes him the heel.

Hennig/Flair up next. This should wash some of the bad taste out of my mouth.

This is pretty solid match. Not great, but solid. About as good as you were going to get from 97 Flair. The broadcast team is completely preoccupied with the in PPV story of Hogan and Bischoff threatening to walk out on the main event if Sting isn't banned from the building.

Flair gets himself DQed after tying Hennig to the tree of woe and then kicking the US title belt into his face. It's a really cool spot. Going to have to steal that for my fed at some point.

Larry Z. is out next to referee Luger vs. Hall. And you know what that means it's time for... Lex Luger move count time!

Lex Luger move count: punch, arm ringer, back suplex, clothesline, inverted atomic drop, running forearm, torture rack. Hard to really evaluate Luger's decline, as he was really just a prop here for the story between Hall and Larry.
