House Show Mar. 12th, 2009 Mid-Hudson Civic Arena, Poughkeepsie, NY
John Pesek Vs. Butcher Vachon*** Vachon's recent attempts to 'cure' Luna have taken their toll, he looked slugish in the ring and tired quickly. Pesekslammed him on the concrete and left him laying to get the easy countout win. John Pesek def. Butcher Vachon by Countout. Rating: * ½
Dudley Boyz Vs. Heartbreak Express**** The Dudleys are ready for D-X.. they were firing on all cylinders during this one, and got dominant win. The Dudley def. Heartbreak Express with the 3D. Rating: * ½
Al Snow Vs. Nick Mondo Snow didn't seem ready for this one, and Mondo finished it quickly. Nick Mondo def. Al Snow with the Assault Driver. Rating: *
George Hackenschmidt***** Vs. The Sandman** It seems the Russian is embracing the hardcore lifestyle, taking the fight to the Hardcore Legends of EWE. He still has some things to learn about the style though, the Sandman beat him brutally, almost definitely causing a concussion on his way to the hard earned victory. The Sandman def. George Hackenschmidt with a DDT. Rating: ***
Wolfgang Dudley Vs. George 'the Animal' Steele Uncle Wolfgang dwarved the Animal in the ring, showing just how imposing a force he could be. The newest Dudley arrival used his incredible power to get a quick victory. Wolfgang Dudley def. George 'the Animal' Steele with the Dudley Splash. Rating: ½
Billy Robinson Vs. Scott 'Hog' Irwin** Irwin came out with his partner and the carried pictures of the Queen with them, which they burned in the center of the ring. Robinson stormed the ring to start the match, and never let up, staying one step ahead of Irwin for the who match. 'Wild' Bill attacked him after the match, and things looked bad for the Brit until Doug Somers and Steve Regal hit the ring for the save. Robinson and Regal shook hands as the Irwins shouted insults from the ramp. Billy Robinson def. Scott 'Hog' Irwin with a Tombstone Piledriver. Rating: **

Friday Night Fireworks Mar. 13th. 2009 Hammerstein Ballroom, NY
Butcher Vachon starts the show in the ring, with standout Japanese superstar Yumi Fukawa, mic in hand. Vachon: Trudy, darling, come, I have here for you the best trainer you can have, let us see how much of the family talent you have. You don't have to associate with those black hearted men just to learn the business.....
Gangrel, Harker Dirge, and Luna come out, with Luna silently taking her place in the corner, as if it start the match, but without saying a word. Vachone started to try to say something, then thought better of it, and stepped out of the way to allow the match to begin.
Luna Vachon****(w/ Butcher Vachon) Vs. Yumi Fukawa The constant stream of instructions and encouragement form Butcher really seemed to confuse and distract Luna.. she really just sort of flailed about, without much purpose. An easy victory for Fukawa. Yumi Fukawa def. Luna Vachon with a Cross Armbreaker. Rating: * 1/2
Doug Somers/Steve Regal** Vs. Long Riders When asked why they came to Billy Robinson's aid last week, Mr. Electricity answered, 'I love those BBC TV shows, so the Brits can't be all bad' .. the motivation wasn't enough here, though as the big Texans dominated from the opening bell. Long Riders def. Somers/Regal with a Superplex. Rating: *
After the match, Scott 'Hog' sent Wild Bill over for a mic:
Irwin: Ya crazy limey! Mcmanus, you want a piece of Texas? Well, son, non amount of tea and crumpets is gonna save you from these (Wild Bill had produced Branding Irons from somewhere). When we git through with you, you're gonna remember what everyone here in the states learnt long ago... Bill Irwin: Don't mess with Texas!
Drake Younger Vs. Ad Santel*** After some back and forth mat wrestling early, Younger abandoned his 'shooter' style and when back to the basics... a chair shot, two light tubes, and a lot of blood later, it was all over. Drake Younger def. Ad Santel with a light tube. Rating: * ½
After the match, Younger took the falling Santel and planted him with Drake's Landing, adding injury to insult. The rest of Wave of the Future hit the ring, and uncerimoniously dumped Santel to the floor.
With the rest of his boys behind him Younger clearly had something to say:
Younger: I've had it! I tried to play nice... tried to be a 'good worker'. But you know what, it #$@)#! Hammerlocks and crossfaces are for old men and college kids. These gestures to the light tube shards do quite a bit more damage. No more 'purity' or 'shooting' for us.. its all about the blood, the damage, the carnage you do to your opponent. We're not like certain Canadian jobbers that used to fight here, satisfied to rest on their laurels and never win a match. Hope you have a nice set of luggage, Jericho, looks like your moving again. You're running out of territories who don't realize you're all done ! Maybe you can pick on guys like this motions to the still down Santel and you'll have a chance.
We are the Wave of the Future! You can join us for the ride... or be swept away.
A few last kicks to the fallen Santel accompany their departure, the crowd was shocked into silence
Tommy Dreamer* Vs. George Hackenschmidt* Hackenschmidt seems to have the former champ's number.. Dreamer was unable to get much of anything to fazed the Russian strongman. Tommy busted out of the bear hug with a foreign object once, but the 2nd time put him out. George Hackenschmidt def. Tommy Dreamer with a Russian Bear Hug. Rating: **
Hardcore Legends* Vs. Heartbreak Express**** Snow and the Sandman got a big pop from the crowd in their first match in a while. Snow was in trouble early, but 'Superstar' Sean went for the high-risk move from the 2nd rope and let Snow get back in control. The Sandman and his trusty cane did the rest. Hardcore Legends def. Heartbreak Express with a cane shot. Rating: **
Backstage: Commissioner Wildfire is in his office on the phone. Wildfire: I understand, but there will be consquences, have you thought this through? pauses, I see, well, I'll talk to him then. You boys do what you have to do. I'll handle the politics... that's my job after all. Just see that you bring us back some gold. another slight pause
Sam! Get Michaels in here, on the double!
Harker Dirge **Vs. Nick Mondo** The blood ran fast and furious in this one, as both men brought weapons to the ring with them. Dirge actually made an overture to Mondo pre-match, perhaps thinking his part on the attack on Ad Santel was the sort of style he and Gangrel enjoyed. Mondo responded with a trash can lid.. and the fight only got more intense from there. After choking out Mondo with a silk scarf, Dirge locked in the Dirt Nap for the victory. Harker Dirge def. Nick Mondo with the Dirt Nap. Rating: ***
Dudley Boys** Vs. Shawn Michaels/ X-Pac** The Dudleys couldn't wait until next week to get themselves a piece of D-X, but the piece they got was a whole lot of boot to the face. HBK had the match won with Sweet Chin Music when Uncle Wolfgang lumbered to the ring with a table. HBK popped up before the three count, and the distraction allowed D-Von to hit him with a low blow from behind. Uncle Wolfgang tossed in the table as the Dudleys lined up the 3-D, leaving Michaels amid splinters. Dudley Boys def. Shawn Michaels/X-Pac with the 3-D

Wildfire: Welcome, to our first show here under the AWA banner! There will be no 'separate brand' here in EWE... we're AWA 100%. Tonight's two Pure Tournament matches will be fought under Pure Title rules, to give you, the fans, a taste of what's to come. I'd also like to assure the fans, and the men in the back, that the actions of Degeneration X had no bearing on the decision to join the AWA,it's a natural match for us, and was already in the works before they asked for the press conference. I'd also like to thank the AWA championship committee for recognizing Tommy Dreamer as a top contender for the AWA extreme title, I'd certain he'll bring that title here, where it belongs, once he gets the chance! Enjoy the show!
Gangrel* Vs. Drake Younger*** Younger didn't have much luck backing his words on Friday Night... Gangrel dominated the match for the easy victory. Gangrel def. Drake Younger with A Jumping Piledriver. Rating: **
Hardcore Legends Vs. Moondogs*** While they showed that they're a good fit in style and personality, the Moondogs we're able to get the win to go with their EWE debut. Hardcore Legends def. Moondogs when Al Snow pinned Moondog Rex after the Snow-plex. Rating: * ½
Bob Backlund* vs. Ad Santel* The two men were very evenly matched on the ground, and several minutes of moves and counter moves didn't show any advantage either way. Backlund changed tactics and used a series of lefts and rights to through Santel off balance enough to finish him. Bob Backlund def. Ad Santel with an Atomic Knee Drop. Rating: ** ½
Billy Robinson** Vs. 'Wild' Bill Irwin Robinson was looking for a clean sweep of the Texans, but the numbers game caught up with him. Scott was on hand at ringside, and the distraction allowed Wild Bill to keep control. He tossed Robinson out to Scott, who smashed him with the ring steps while the referee wasn't looking for the win. The Long Riders got the branding iron out for Robinson when Mick McManus hit the ring with an iron to make the save. 'Wild' Bill Irwin def Billy Robinson by Countout
Wolfgang Dudley** Vs. 'Road Dogg' Jesse James** Road Dogg dominated early, but kept looking at an order man in the front row, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that covered his face. He was taking notes during the match. Finally, James turned to the man, and that was all the opening the mountain known as Wolfgang Dudley needed. Wolfgang Dudley def. 'Road Dogg' Jesse James with a running Avalanche. Rating: 1 ½
Pure Title Tournament Quarter Finals
Frank Gotch** vs. Mick McManus*** McManus proved very elusive, so Gotch switched gears and pummeled McManus' back, trying to reduce his movement. While it didn't seem to be worked, it was enougn to enhance Gotch's Iowa backdrop for the win. Frank Gotch def. Mick McManus with the Iowa Backdrop. Rating: ** ½
Chris Benoit******* vs. Ken Shamrock**** This was an unbelievable match that brought the house down! The intensity of the two men was palpable, which was only intensified by the pure rules. Shamrock worked Benoit's ankle, while Benoit focused on his opponents arm. Both men used up all their rope breaks.. it was Shamorck that struck first after they were expended, locking in the Ankle Lock in the corner, using the ropes for additional pressure and forcing the referee to call for the bell before Benoit's ankle snapped. Ken Shamrock def. Chris Benoit with the Ankle Lock. Rating: **** ½.
EWE Title Match Billy Gunn Vs. Harker Dirge** Harker made a better showing than his previous shot at the title, but the outcome was never in doubt. Billy Gunn def. Harker Dirge with the Famasser. Rating: **

Pierre/'Pitbull' Vachon******** Vs. Naptown Dragons***** Both teams have been struggling as of late, and really needed the victory. They both pulled out all the stops, with the Vachons dominating early ,but a pin save by Dustin Lee stunned Pierre and seemed to do serious damage. As the tide turned, the Vachons seemed lost without Butcher at ringside, and the Dragons were able to close the deal. Naptown Dragons def. Pierre/'Pitbull' Vachon with Die Hard Trilogy. Rating: ****
Backstage, Butcher Vachon is talking to someone off camera.
Vachon: I don't know what to do. I've tried everything I know, and still my Trudy associates with those evil men, What's a father to do? The camera pans back to reveal Bob Armstrong Armstrong: I think I can help you.. I've seen a wayward wrestling child or two myself. We'll start next week. Partners? Vachon takes Armstrong's hand Vachon: Partners.
Terry Funk*** Vs. Billy Robinson* Funk came out to a good pop, and told the crowd the AWA was the place to be for the roughest, toughest, biggest action in the World. He said the Brits are just jealous they have to come to America to wrestling, but promised he's show them why Texas has the toughest SoBs anywhere. Funk was taken down hard, and losing the match badly when the Long Riders appeared at ringside. The brief distraction allowed Terry to get his branding iron from under the ring and knock Robinson out with it. Terry Funk def. Billy Robinson with a foreign Object. Rating: ***
The Longriders were ready to continue the assault, but Tommy Dreamer and the Hardcore Legends hit the ring. The distraction allowed Robinson to escape.
Dreamer: Funk.. I have a lot of respect for you.. you're a real legend of Extreme wrestling. We're not so bad either, though big pop from the home town crowd At 'In Honor of Tradition', you are the man standing between me and the AWA Extreme title, so I suggest you stay of my way. Me and the Sandman are gonna give you a little clinic on how we do it up north.. I suggest you pay attention.
Sandman** Vs Tommy Dreamer** Short, but brutal match. The chairs, canes and other weapons were in full effect, and both men bled early. After looked as if Tommy had the easy win, Sandman pushed through the pain and made a comeback. Dreamer survived a cane shot, but kicked out just after 3 when Sandman planted him onto a chair with a Hardcore DDT/ Sandman thanked the fans of EWE and left to a big ovation. Sandman def. Tommy Dreamer with a Hardcore DDT. Rating: ***

Bob Backlund Vs. Shawn Michaels*** HBK tried to throw Backlund off balance, but Bob stayed focused and outwrestled Michaels for the impressive victory. Bob Backlund def. Shawn Michaels with Rolling Backbridge. Rating: ** ½
After the match, Commissioner Wildfire announced that Backlund would be representing EWE in a scramble match at the next GNP card to determine the #1 contender for the US title. Backlund was very excited, and Michaels was furious, claiming he should have been told ahead of time. The commissioner silenced HBK with a question, 'Would you have tried harder then?' then walked to the back as the ring crew came out to set up the main event.
EWE Tag Team Title Match in a Cage New Age Outlaws **Vs. Dudley Boyz The Dudleys were like men possessed... their ferocity was impressive, as was the dominant victory to win the EWE Tag team titles! The Dudleys def. New Age Outlaws with the 3-D to become the New EWE Tag team Champs!

Two men in suits, loafers and masks came out to the ring, seemingly ready to wrestle. One of them had a mike. Father #1: Sons and Daughters are the greatest gift a man can have, but sometimes, they go a bit astray, and nothing you say can bring them back to the path you know they should be on. The show opens with new AWA US Champ, Bob Backlund, coming out to address the fans.
Backlund: Thank you, my friends! I'd like to congratulate my two opponents on a match well fought. I look forward to the chance to face each of you one on one, to prove to the AWA the best man won the title. Bret, I'll see you in Portland... get those boots laced up. As for you, Mr. Bockwinkel, well, there's no need to be nasty. The AWA makes my travel schedule, not me. Just to show you I'm a champ who takes on all comers, I'll face you on Friday.. just three days from now. Just you, though. I don't want to see that weasel of a manager you have. We'll burn the house down! And at the end of the night, I'll still be... AWA... US.. Champion.
Kevin Sullivan(w/ Luna Vachon)** def. Dustin Lee**** with the Golden Spike @ 15:22 Great match.. Sullivan was vicious in his debut, but 'Diehard' did just that... he was bleeding profusely by the end. After the match, Gangrel and Harker Dirge slowly came down to the ring. Dirge licked a bit of blood from Lee's face, then they took places behind Sullivan
Sullivan: Future? There is only Darkness here. The 5th star is complete, and the sword of Damocles has fallen?! There will be no waves... no futures. Only Darkness. They have crawled from the depths, and united here in the EWE.. There is one more to be chosen, the the circle will be complete.

Harker Dirge(w/ Kevin Sullivan)** def. Nick Mondo*** with the Dirt Nap @ 11: 27 Sullivan was at ringside, but he mostly harangued the crowd, and olny paid attention to the match when it was outside the ring.. which was often. George Hackenschmidt def. Shawn Michaels*with Russian Bear Hug @ 6:16 Lots of back and forth action in this one. HBK looked good, but seems to be unable to close the deal since coming to EWE.

Blonde: Hello, peoples! I am your commissioner, and I am her today to tell you something very important. The LWA has decided that since all the good wrestlers are in the RMWA anyway, we're just going to give all the titles to the wrestlers there. They, if they lose, I have this suitcase here full of rematches. As long as you're in the RMWA, you're all set. Hee Hee! Road Dogg puts out his hand for the mic, then pats the woman on the bottom as she leaves the ring Road Dogg: I hear, from our esteemed commissioner, that LWA champions get a re-match when they lose their title. Huh. Hey Billy, you remember a re-match? (Gunn shakes his head) Me, either. How good was that stuff X-Pac got us last week? Anywho, The LWA has shown just who is important to them, this time. Even an brainless suck up like Paul Heymann gets it. Let's face it, would you want Rick Steiner as your HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WOOORRRLLLD?WOOF WOOF!

The crowd was really behind him. Dreamer got 2 7/8 after the Dreamer driver, but Uncle Wolfgang was not to be denied, and kicked out. D-X had seen enough and stormed the ring, laying out the champ and challenger, before the rest of the Dudleys hit the ring and evened the odds.

Sullivan debuts and ALREADY has an army? Wow! Talk about starting off in high gear!
Regal did indeed "steal" one, that's for sure!
Dirge will be up to no good with Sullivan at ringside!
Lost to a double wristlock? LOL!
HBK loses? Woulda LOVED to have seen that!
Backlund / Gotch must have been a true mat classic!
Not familiar with Wolfgang Dudley. I'm thinking he's one of the Dudleys, obviously.

Dreamer: It seems like friends are getting hard to find around there... or perhaps some of the boys in the back have a bit more pull with 'management' than I do. Wolfgang Dudley, you have something that belongs to me, and I want it back! Next week, right here, you... me... a cage.. no escape... no help... no surrender. Dreamer slams the mic down and heads to the back.
Billy Robinson/Doug Somers/Steve Regal* def Long Riders/Phil Hickerson****** when Doug Somers pinned 'Wild' Bill Irwin after an Inverted Atomic Drop @ 9:23 Billy Robinson seems to have formally allied himself with Somers and Regal, and just in time with the addition of Phil Hickerson to the EWE roster. This was a bad day for the Texans, though, as Somers, Regal and Robinson looked very good together and won easily.
The New Age Outlaws come out with X-Pac all dressed in Dudley flannel, with Road Dogg where a pair of black glasses with no lenses in them, and a pillow under his shirt.
Road Dogg: I t-t-t-t-think that we Dudleys are t-t-t-t-t-totally awesome. Right Devon? Billy Gunn (in black makeup): Testify! Road Dogg: Those n-n-n-n-New Age Outlaws are nothing but trouble. Right Devon? Billy Gunn: testify! The Dudleys had heard enough and the brawl was on! With HBK out of the country, D-X was outnumbered, but Danny Doring hit the ring with a chair to help.. taking out Spike, then going crazy, as if he just won the world title. Security came down to break things up and restore order
Father's Day def. Pierre/'Pitbull' Vachon* with the Neck Tie @ 6:21. Rating: * 3/4 Father #2 was very hestitant as he entered the ring, by he got it together and kept the team on a roll with an easy victory.
AWA US Champ Bob Backlund come down to the ring, title over his shoulder.
Backlund: I'm disappointed in you, Nick. You're gonna let back stage politics stand between you and a chance at immortality? Or is it, maybe, that you've lost you nerve. Maybe you need that weaselly manager of yours to protect you these days? It's sad.. very sad. Since I don't want to disappoint the fans, I do have an opponent tonight though.. bring him down!
Non-Title Match Bob Backlund def. Danny Doring* with Atomic Knee Drop @ 3:42. Rating: * 1/4 Doring came out in Black and Green to D-X's music, but it didn't help him much.. total squash.
Commissioner Wildfire: We have a special treat tonight, EWE will be sanctioning a new title, called the Commissioner's Cup. It will be defended at EVERY EWE event against a randomly selected opponent. If the champion can manage to be 5 different opponents, he'll get a chance at his choice of the Pure Title or the EWE Title. The commissioner holds up a remote control Lets see who the lucky competitors will be? Wildfire presses the button, and the video screen runs through pics of the EWE roster...finally stopping on the two men.. Dustin Lee and Damien Vachon.
Commissioner's Cup Dustin Lee (w/ Sherri Martel)* def. Damien Vachon** with Die Hard Trilogy @ 8:42. Rating: ** ½ Both men seemed excited for the opportunity, and expended a lot of energy quickly. The pace slowed as it went on, which would seem to indicate both men's earlier tag match took its toll. Vachon had the upper hand until his newly self-appointed manager pushed Vachon off the ropes to set up the Die Hard trilogy for the win.
EWE Tag Team Title Match Dudley Boyz Vs. New Age Outlaws – No Contest The one never got off the ground, the Dudleys hit the ring within the 1st 2 minutes of the match, and another brawl was on! The 8 men (including Danny Doring helping the Outlaws) were still going at it as the show ended.

I really like the Commissioner's Cup concept. Very cool.

Thanks! I'm hoping it leads to some good undercard rivalries.. I wanted a true secondary belt (the pure title is more like a different division) and I like them to have some purpose

Good write-up, WF! Thanks for clearing up who "Father's Day" was!
Dudleys / Outlaws deserve a no-DQ rematch!
